Thyagaraja Temple:

A Marvel of Dravidian Architecture At the heart of Thiruvarur stands the Thyagaraja Temple, a magnificent Shiva temple. Here are some fascinating details about this sacred abode: Deities: Shiva is worshipped as Thyagarajaswami, also known as Putridankondar, while his consort Parvati takes the form of Goddess Neelotpalambika. Shakti Peetha: The temple houses a separate shrine dedicated to Goddess Kamalambika, a significant center for Shaktism and Tantra.
Covering an impressive 8.1 hectares (20 acres), the temple boasts nine entrance towers (gopurams). The tallest among them is the eastern tower, soaring to 30 meters (98 feet). Spiritual Legacy: The presiding deity is mentioned in the 7th-century Shaiva canonical work, the Tevaram, composed by saint poets known as the Nayanars.

Paadal Petra Sthalam:

Classified as one of the Paadal Petra Sthalams, this temple holds immense spiritual significance. Thiruvarur’s historic name was Arur or Aroor, which is referenced in ancient texts like the Tevaram.Thiru: The prefix “Thiru” signifies holiness and is added to temple cities revered by the verses of Tevaram.
